Does anyone remember the song “The Candy Man”. He can because he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good. That’s the beauty and the relationship of mixing respect and love, when you show respect chances are you will feel varying degrees of love. Respect can mean deep admiration or a particular aspect, point or detail. The point of respect is that love or deep feelings of admiration are important building blocks to the overall well being of a person. In fact, one of the eight areas of wellness according to SAMHSA is emotional. The emotional area consists of coping effectively with life and creating satisfying relationships. Satisfying relationships start with respect and ultimately end in love.
“Love is patient; love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude; never selfish, not quick to take offence. Love keeps no score of wrongs; does not gloat over another’s sins, but delights in the truth. There is nothing love cannot face; there is not limit to its faith, its hope, and its endurance. In a word, there are three things that last forever: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of them all is love.” (1 Corinthians 13)
So, while you are giving out the boxes of chocolate (like the candy man) this Valentine’s season remember to mix it with respect and love and it will taste even better and the world will be a better place.
Faith, hope, and lots of love,
